Here are the steps to delete your Threads account:
Unfortunately at this time, there is no way to permanently delete just your Threads account. The only option is to deactivate it.
To deactivate your Threads account:
1) Open the Threads app and tap the profile icon in the bottom right corner.
2) Tap the menu icon (two lines) in the top right corner.
3) Select “Account” from the menu.
4) Tap “Deactivate profile.”
5) Confirm by tapping “Deactivate Threads profile.” You will then be logged out.
When you deactivate your Threads account:
- Your profile, threads, replies, likes and followers will be temporarily hidden from other users.
- Your account will not be deleted, and you can reactivate it at any time by logging back in.
The limitation:
Currently, the only way to permanently delete your Threads account is to delete your entire Instagram account. Threads and Instagram accounts are still linked.
This is a major limitation of Threads that could prevent some users from fully adopting the app. Being able to delete just your Threads account, without impacting Instagram, would be a useful feature.
The future:
Instagram will likely eventually allow users to delete their Threads accounts separately from Instagram. But that option does not exist yet.
For now, deactivating your Threads account is the best option if you want to take a break from the app. You can always reactivate it later if you change your mind. But a full deletion is not possible without deleting your Instagram as well.
